So being there right from the time they were setting it up I realised this was sort of a community of people who had decided to get together. Because everyone seemed to know each other except, for me, i was the outsider of sorts. Thats alright I thought, I guess this is how things start up, people who know each other need to come together to get the word out.
The session started and it was interesting, people read out from their blogs and kept thanking each other for being introduced into blogging. At first I thought this was some secret gathering of blogger's, because everyone seemed to be a blogger.
The readings were good, some read poetry, some read old blog post's, some read off books. Some were boring, some were interesting and some were actually very very good!
However what i found offensive was that when things turned slightly boring people would get up and gather in their little forums and I'm sure were discussing matters of great importance.
This is what I really dont like about gatherings where everyone knows each other, especially at this open mic where some said we must unite and save our country. The same people wouldn't sit in one place to support their fellow speakers. They might have been boring but not everyone is to be a fabulous orator. I am not sure I can get up on stage and say more than two words without breaking my voice because I have what is generally known as stage fright. What hit me was that if this happened to be me trying for the first time to say something in a public gathering, I would not only be afraid when i start but also a bit humiliated when I finished which wouldn't really help me.
The point of this is that i think this community is just another bias group who think they are liberal and open minded but they are just as closed up as the rest of them. Just because they talk of Sex or Voice their opinion for better governance doesn't mean they are any different.
Should you go for Open Mic? Better yet, should I go for it
again?
Yes, you should come and I should go. It needs more independent minded people who are not caught in group think syndrome. I dont agree with everything that was said their but thats the whole point of being a liberal, you let the other person talk and you listen when they talk. They speak because they want to be heard and you have to respect them for that. That is a must!
If the organizers can, I think you shouldn't make this some political fiasco of some like minded people. I am being very decent in my description here because I want to convey an honest opinion and not just ramble about it. This could be fun, interesting and can be a place where people can get educated. Its great that you've taken initiative to start it.. but I hope you will learn with each session and make it less of a statement and more of point. Like I said any independent minded people, you should go for it.
