A Sri Lankan Mix

With an ethnic conflict in full scale and misunderstanding and miscommunications between races and religions I think its time for me to add some fuel to the fire. The following is not always subscribed by me but is generally known to the general public and or is endorsed by most Sri Lankans.

"Sinhalese people have a very short term memory"

"There is an abundance of Tamils in the IT industry"

"Tamils are loyal"

"Kanyan's hate southerners"

"Southerners hate Kandyan's"

I'm not sure about how this goes but there is something to do with a river and crap like that but the bottom line is Kanday's say that they would not even keep Cat from the south.

"Never trust a Muslim they will cheat you"

"Tamils make good accountants"

"Sinhalese are ungrateful people"

"Southerners are industrious and cunning"

"Kanyan's are lazy farmers who like to sleep and kill someone now and then"

"Careful when you do business with a Muslim"

"Jaffna Tamil's Hate Upcountry Tamils"

"Sinhalese don't like to see their neighbours prosper"

"Muslim men fuck Sinhalese Women before they get married to a nice conservative Muslim woman who they will keep covered from head to toe"

"Catholics believe their Religion offers salvation and they pray to one true God"

"Muslims believe they should do everything to protect their Religion that offers them salvation and they pray to one true God'

"A lotta Buddhist have got their wires crossed and think they pray to a God"

"Hindu's pray to their Gods and well they generally keep to themselves"

There are things said about Burghers as well but I don't recall right now so can't put it down, oh but this I remember.

"Burgher women are easy"

Obviously Sri Lanka a land like no other. With such a diverse background do you ever think there will be peach here? The best anyone can hope for me thinks is that this religion crap gets thrown out the window and they make it a crime to be of any one race. Then we just become Sri Lankans. If not, given my social observation over the last decade or so nothing will change. Mistrust between the Sinhalese and Tamils will exist. I've seen it on both sides. The Muslims will start asking for their own part of the country and well The Buddhist will go after Catholics and start another war.

People cannot get along in this country that’s the long and short of it. It is generally understood that burghers have left Sri Lanka because they can't get along with the Sinhalese. They are more hippie type so its an easy life or a really fucked up life that they lead.

A true combination for a grand screw up.

The truth must be spoken and if anyone thinks that this is not the perception most in this country have please do feel free to let me know. I personally have made observations and there are some truths that cannot be changed but I don't hold it against anyone for being born into any race or religion I believe that everyone deserves an equal chance to prove themselves and I honestly hope maybe people will get past this.. that is if it is if the impossible is possible.

Hike up your skirt a little more And show your world to me

Appropriate title me thinks :)

About 8 years ago I used to do my travelling in the bus and going through Fort area where my bus used to park itself I would have to walk a few hundred meters to get to it. At that point in time the general attire of most girls who would get into a bus was something along the lines of a long ankle length black skirt and a light coloured blouse of some sort. A walk through and fort I would see plenty of them. I would have to say this was the way most girls dressed 8 years ago.

Come 2008 trends have gone from that to most girls wearing knee length skirts not afraid to show a bit of leg and even some wearing stuff that is just above the knee. I know this sounds pervy but gimme a break I'm an observer of the ant like society at large. The bra straps show more often now and multi coloured bikini bras are the "IN" thing even in busy towns these days. I do recall there is used to be so much stigma over showing a bit of leg.

In my opinion one reason for this drastic change would be due to TV channel's like Sirasa TV, I think they captured a fusion of Indian-western-attitude and gave Sri Lankan's a dose of it. The promotions they run to boost their ratings can almost always be equated to that. Now you get the low necks the V necks the Bear Backs the Bikini bras and off the shoulder and the sleeveless and Spaghetti Straps that are the norm (There must be plenty more that I don't knwo the names to). All due to, I suppose a desensitizing of people's attitudes. Mothers are no longer shocked to see a girl showing skin and I believe most folk watch the various entertainment with great pleasure. One thing leads to another and thus more girls are conscious about what they're wearing but I think they are less cautious of what they are wearing.

I personally have no problem if people walked around in the Nude even. However this has been a fascinating project for me. I've been noticing how the skirts get shorter. Girls are bolder and I'm hoping guys are a little less frustrated because they must be getting more now. At least more eye candy.

This maybe not in the correct order but I also remember the general hypocrisy with guys where they don't mind looking at a chick in a Mini Skirt but the minute their chick wears one... well you know how it goes. (This part is for a friend of mine, I hope you read it) :) I have no idea as to why that is.. I mean I have been accused of being possessive and protective and all that but a chicks dress sense is her personal space me thinks and so is mine by the way...

Anyway given that more guys do see short skirts and more leg now.. seeing a chick in short skirt wont be a reason to stare anymore. I'm all for looking but admiration and desperation are too different perspectives altogether.

Most times unfortunately Sri Lankan society which is influenced by religion and its generally hypocritical values has led to the condemning of many things without reason for the sake of religion. A woman dress sense has been one of those things discussed by all faiths I guess. Still change has taken place and this is what has happened in 8 years, who knows what we will see in the next 5 years or less. I'm guessing the average length of a girls skirt will drastically reduce, more skin will show, public displays of affection will not be a thing of the past.. who knows really.. lets wait and see...

Or.. maybe I'll be writing about cleavage next time. Have a nice day.. its too early in the morning for me to be up anyway..
